Cancer Second Opinion

An independent re-reading of the clinical, pathological and molecular record in a complex case.

Who it is for
  • Patients facing a significant treatment decision who want another perspective.
  • Patients whose disease has behaved differently from what was expected.
  • Families seeking clarity before consenting to a demanding treatment.
What is reviewed
  • The complete documentary record supplied
  • Consistency between pathology, imaging and molecular findings
  • The evidence position of the current and proposed approach
What is delivered
  • An independent structured summary
  • Identification of questions the record leaves open
  • Where relevant, areas that may merit further testing or discussion
How this works alongside your care
  • Analysis and interpretation are provided to you and, where you wish, directly to your treating team — who continue to prescribe, administer and direct your treatment.
  • The work sits alongside your treating oncologist and is designed to strengthen that relationship rather than sit outside it.
  • It is built for considered review. Anything acute or time-critical belongs with your treating team or your local emergency service, who can act immediately.
  • It sets out what the evidence supports and where it remains uncertain. It does not forecast how a particular cancer will respond.
  • The decision to accept or decline any treatment rests with you and your treating team; the review is there to make that decision better informed.
How to begin

Getting started

Nothing is charged for an enquiry, and scope is agreed in writing before any work starts.

Enquiries begin with a short message describing the situation and the question. From there, the documentation needed is agreed, and a scope and timeline are confirmed before any work starts.

The document checklist sets out what is typically needed. Missing items are worth identifying at the outset rather than mid-review.
